What makes a UV, electronic & carbon smoke eater so much above the rest is the
technology behind its filters. Ultraviolet filters are simply a UV-C bulb used
to sterilize bacteria, mold, viruses, and fungi. UV lights also break down the
molecular structure of smoke, turning it into smaller more inert particles. The
electronic, or electrostatic precipitator, filter is a series of charged plates
that is placed before the bulb to attract as many particles as possible, so the
UV light can more effectively break up the molecules that pass through the
electrostatic precipitator without being caught. Finally, an activated carbon
filter absorbs any chemical fumes and smoke odors that remain. Also, during the
electrostatic precipitation process, a small amount of ozone is released.
Activated carbon neutralizes this possibly harmful ozone and turns it into
oxygen.
