Austin Air smoke eater products are somewhat more reliable and sturdy than some of the other residential air cleaners, containing more steel parts than plastic. All Austin Air units contain three filters: a wraparound cloth prefilter, which is designed to remove the larger contaminants and help prolong the life of the main HEPA filter; an odor filter containing a substantial amount of granulated carbon; and lastly, a true HEPA filter that handles the microscopic particles at an efficiency of 99.97% for particles that are 0.3µm and larger.
